Common misuse of ‘actually’, ‘and then’ and ‘it seems’ to create ‘cohesion’, probably due to Cantonese inference.

Ronnie(陳淑莊飾) : Doctor! Doctor! (in wheel chair)

Doctor: E! 個護士話法國球星 Ronnie o黎o左, 原來係真! Hey! Ronnie. I am your fan! What happened?

Ronnie: (In great pain) It was raining …Ooh … (groaning and can’t go on)

Doctor: OK, actually you told our nurse what happened. Actually, you were playing football, and then there were puddles, and then you collided with the goal keeper, and then you broke your leg, and then …

Ronnie: (Screaming) Help me,

Doctor. Will I lose my leg?

Doctor: Well, actually we've x-rayed your leg. It seems it’s a very minor fracture …

Ronnie: (Very scared) What? You mean it may be more serious? Oh, no!…

----------------------------------------------

Presenter (陳淑莊飾): 嘩, Ronnie真係比Doctor d 英文嚇親.

首先, Doctor 用左 ‘actually’呢個字幾次, 但只有一句係o岩:
OK, actually you told our nurse what happened.
‘actually’ o係呢一句,意思係 Doctor 唔洗 Ronnie 講多一次意外的經過.
記住: ‘actually’o既主要用途, 係澄清事實, 同澄清一D矛盾. 大家唔好用 ‘actually’ 同 ‘and then’ 來連埋晒d句子, 聽起上來, 係好累贅的
另外, ‘it seems’ 又係一個累贅的用詞, 如果讚人“你好叻” 可以索性講‘You are clever.’
剛才o個個醫生用”It seems it’s a very minor fracture.”
就俾人一個唔肯定o既感覺, 難怪嚇到Ronnie We嘩鬼叫!

其實英語對話o既一個特式, 係用好多短o既句子,唔需要用‘actually’, ‘and then’, 同 ‘it seems 等等o黎製造連貫.不如叫Doctor重複一次啦!

-------------------------------------------

Doctor: Actually, you told our nurse what happened. You were playing football. There were some puddles. You collided with the goalkeeper; then you broke your leg.

Ronnie: (In pain, nodding) Yes, that’s right.

Doctor: Well, we’ve x-rayed your leg. It’s a very minor fracture…

Ronnie: (relieved) Can I play next month then?

Doctor: Do you want to see me again next month?

Ronnie:… No! No, thanks!!

OK… let me try again! I took a train to LoWu. I ate at a Chinese restaurant. I tried a new dim sum there. Yummy! I told the waiter, ‘Keep the change!’

Mainland 當中的land 他就加了n音, /n/ 、就是一個鼻音, 至於 China, Needs同Designer, 他就卷舌發了 /l/音,他的確讀得十分難聽!

咬字不清怎學人做歌手呢! 讓我重覆一次!

Marianne: Take care the dog?

Brian: Yes, my dog!

Marianne: Sir, you aren’t using prepositions correctly…

----------------------------------------------

主持：陳淑莊

陳: 嘩! Brian用錯d prepositions, 不是令人啼笑皆非, 就是激死Marianne。需要注意是常用的 phrasal verbs 用錯了 prepositions, 意思是完全不同。而要正確用preopositions, 祕訣就是多溫習。

“To put off” 意思是指推遲一件事。例如: “Brian will put off his trip to Japan.”

“除鞋”、”除褸”, 是”Take off your shoes. / Take off your jacket.”
“Brian wants the guests to take off their shoes.”

而”著鞋”、”著衫”是”Put on your jacket.”
“Brian wants the guests to put on slippers.”

而”滅火”就不是”To put off fire”
“The firemen will put out the fire.” 才是指滅火。

Take care the dog, 意思好像叫那隻狗保重啊!
“照顧”是”Take care of”
例如: Please take care of the dog for me.

那場火撲滅了沒有呢?

Jason: 我去探家姐之嘛! 好啦, 等我o係blog 度澄清下la.

My elder sister gave birth to a bady (baby) girl yesterday. Althought (Although) I had dance rehearsals, I went to see them in hospital.

媽:咪住! 串錯兩個字.

Jason: My sister gave birth to a baby girl. 係喎,兩個 ‘b’音

媽: ‘although’ 冇尾音, 唔駛加t!
Some fans were quiet excited to see me, so some were screaming. I told them, ‘Shh! Clam down! Clam down!’

Jason: 咩話? 冇錯bo!
This morning, some friends wroted my sister very warm messages.

主持：陳淑莊

陳淑莊: 好多同學都好像Jason, 寫英文時,串錯好多字.

‘quite’ 就變了 ‘quiet’, ‘calm’ 就變成 ‘Clam’, 還有, 大家要留意,
緊記常用動詞, 即是 verbs, 的 past tense, past participle的串法, 例如
‘write’ 的 past tense 是 wrote, past participle 是 written)

媽: Some fans were quite excited to see me, so some were screaming. I told them, ‘Shh! Calm down! Calm down!’ Some friends wrote my sister very warm messages.

Jason: 我宜家成日要寫Blog, 媽呀, 點先可以少D wrong spelling?

媽: 等我&amp;#25934;你兩招啦!
第一寫野的時候, 可以讀出聲, 用發音幫你搵錯字, 其實, 你基本功唔夠

Jason: 好似打功夫?

媽: 係呀! 第2招係: 抽D時間, 抄寫生字, 先至可以減少串錯字嘛!

Jason: Yes, Mom.

陳：明仔所說‘I very easy/difficult to do something 或 I very easy/difficult to find a job’ 是港式英語,有兩個錯處:句子沒有 verb,及用錯 subject、緊記 ‘Easy’及‘Difficult’是指事物,正確的句式是 ‘Something / It + Be + easy/difficult’: ‘Karate is easy.’和 ‘It wasn’t difficult to find a job.’而 ‘Are you OK?’ 意思是 ‘你冇事嗎?’ 。

不如看看明仔媽媽怎樣幫他!

Miss Stokes: Really? What do you mean?

Mark: My dad and I sometimes play the computer together.

Miss Stokes: Both of you like computer games! What about your elder brother? I know he’s at university.

Mark: Yes, Marco plays karate. At weekends, he goes to play with his friends. Well, he always plays me. Oh, my mom likes to play mahjong with the aunties.

----------------------------------------------

主持：陳淑莊

陳: 廣東話的「玩」真是十分好用! 但直譯為’play’就不妥當, 因為在英語世界,‘play’ 的用途是：

1. 玩遊戲, 例如：小朋友的玩意”The kid are playing in the park.”

2. 玩樂器, 例如：”Chris plays the violin.”

3. 玩球類運動, 例如：”Chris plays squash. They were playing basketball.”

陳: 阿Mark和他daddy並非喜歡「玩」電腦, 而是“My dad and I sometimes play computer games together.”
Marco打空手道, 是”Marco does karate.”

Marco與朋友去街, 是”Marco goes out with his friends.” 或者是”Marco hangs out with his friends.”
Marco鍾意「玩」阿Mark,即是「整蠱」他, 應該這樣說:“Marco always makes fun of me.”而 ‘Mom likes to play mahjong.’ 是正確, 因為「打麻雀」, 是一種遊戲。

還有, ‘My family like to play.’ 應該是 “My family are great fun.”。

-----------------------------------------------

Mark: Miss Stokes. What should I do to improve my vocabulary?

Ms Stokes: Read more, do more revision, and don’t play computer games all the time!

Mark: Sure…

男途人: I very afraid of the wind. I aware of the dangers but I must back to be with my child. He so frightened.

記者: Well…

主持：陳淑莊

陳:嘩！原來我們隨時有機會用英文接受訪問, 錯在用了一些形容詞 (adjectives), 與 介詞 (prepositions)作為動詞； 正確的句式就是Adjectives , 或 prepositions加上 ‘be’! 例如現在式的: is, am, are與過去式的: was, were等等…英文的形容詞就是要靠它們去帶出發生的時態。

同學可以多閱字典, 去分別每個字是形容詞還是它本身已經是一個動詞, 從而決定是否需要加”Be”這些 Verb去帶出時態。再看片…

陳：”I’m painful” 所指的，並非你身體某部分感到痛楚，而是”我感到好痛苦! 好似受左打擊” 。

如果你想表達你不適、或者身體某部份感到痛楚，可以用這個說法，例如：肚痛是”Stomachache” 、頭痛是”Headache”，例如: “I have got a stomachache”，或者 ”I have got a headache.” 。

你又可以用”Hurt”這個字去表達，好像”My stomach hurts.” 、” My leg hurts.”都可以!如果用Painful去組成這句句子，你亦可以說”My foot is painful” ，因為是那腳使到你痛苦!</summary>
